Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation is committed to a safe return to sports programming. A safe return includes adhering to the strict safety protocols set forth by the State of Georgia. To prepare for the upcoming basketball season, Parks and Recreation plans to begin basketball registration mid to late October.
“We have heard from our parents and know that they are eager for children to return to sports activities with us,” says Parks and Recreation Director Stevie Young. “If no further restrictions are applied, we should be back to playing sports soon. We want parents to know we are taking all the safety precautions we possibly can to best protect players, parents, coaches, and anyone who may attend the games.”
Parks and Recreation is looking at several alternatives to begin basketball games which may include temperature checks, mask requirements, social distancing, enhanced cleaning, restricting the number of spectators at games based upon COVID-19 guidelines, and/or halting the season due to team members, coaches, employees, or officials testing positive to COVID-19.
Parks and Recreation apologizes for the delay of registration for basketball and appreciates the patience and support of our players, parents, officials, and spectators. As soon as available, registration details will be released. For more information, please call the Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department at (912)384-5978.
