At the regularly scheduled Douglas City Commission meeting on Monday, September 26, Mayor Tony Paulk, Commissioner Cindy McNeill, along with the South Georgia BBQ & Outdoor Festival (SGBOF) Motorcycle Committee, presented the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County with a donation of $701.00.  The donation came from proceeds of the 50/50 Draw which was held during the South Georgia BBQ & Outdoor Festival on September 9 & 10, 2016.

“At the beginning of planning meetings for the motorcycle events during the South Georgia BBQ & Outdoor Festival, the Motorcycle Committee wanted to contribute back to our community,” says Pattie Merritt, Committee Chairperson.  “Since the month of September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the committee voted to donate proceeds from the 50/50 draw to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County.  We are very happy with the proceeds we raised this year and hope that next year, as the festival grows, we will have more to donate to a non-profit agency in our community.”

A 50/50 Draw is a raffle drawing in which persons purchase a ticket for the chance to win half of the total monies collected.  The winner of this year’s 50/50 Draw was Shannon Smith.  Mrs. Smith donated half of her winnings back to the Motorcycle Committee to present to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County.

The SGBOF Motorcycle Committee consists of members from the community who participate with various Motorcycle riding groups.  The Motorcycle Committee representatives are Adam O’Quinn (Southern Cruisers Riding Club #544), Larry Nesmith (Crush Ryders), BJ Brand (Crush Ryders), Gloria Wilcox (Peach State Divas), Missy Williams (Heaven’s Saints Motorcycle Ministries), Glenda McElhaney (Coffee County Bike Night), Jimmy McAllister (Boss Riders) and Pattie Merritt (Southern Cruisers Riding Club #544).

Special thanks to all committee members and their Clubs, Jokers Motorcycle Club, The Lady Jokers, American Legion Post 515 Ladies Auxiliary, and other volunteers who helped with the motorcycle events.
