Children ages five to 15 can visit the WWII Flight Training Museum starting Saturday, June 27 through Saturday, September 5 to complete a children’s activity guide called the Jr. Cadet Flight Activity Passport and be entered in a drawing to win a ride in a T-34B airplane.
The activity guide consists of a scavenger hunt through the museum. In each room, children will be tasked to find specific artifacts and the answers to questions hidden in the museum exhibits. Upon completion, the child can take the Jr. Cadet oath, earn a stamp of approval, and will be entered into the drawing. During their visit, children will also be able to make and take home a World War II themed paper airplane.
One winner from each age category (ages 5-7 and ages 8-15) will be drawn from the pool of children who complete the Jr. Cadet Flight Activity Passport (one entry per child only). Winners will also have the chance to meet World War II veterans who learned how to fly at the 63rd Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment (AAF-FTD) in Douglas during the war. Each winner will be recognized at the annual 63rd AAF-FTD Cadet luncheon on Tuesday, October 13 with the prize ride in the T-34B to follow. Parental consent is required.
The museum is located at 3 Airport Circle and is open Thursday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge to participate in the contest, but a $3 donation for museum entrance is suggested.
