Coffee Regional Medical Center announced that it has received the Surgical Quality Partner distinction from the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies an institution’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on the process at every step.
The Surgical Quality Partner designation lets patients know that Coffee Regional is dedicated to quality and relentless self-improvement and has been verified or accredited by the ACS. Patients can trust that the care they receive at Surgical Quality Partner hospitals adheres to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality.
The American College of Surgeons is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving patient care by setting and raising standards. The ACS has 13 Quality Programs that lead to greater access for patients, fewer complications, lower cost of care, and better outcomes. As a participant in at least one ACS Quality Program, CRMC has earned this prestigious Surgical Quality Partner distinction.
CRMC is accredited with ACS under the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation Program as well as the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
The ACS CoC accreditation is granted to institutions committed to providing high-quality cancer care by demonstrating compliance with the CoC standards. Coffee Regional’s cancer program completed a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with the CoC standards. To maintain accreditation, CRMC’s cancer program must undergo a site visit every three years. The CoC accreditation standards supply the structure for providing all patients with a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and supportive services either on-site or by referral, including community-based resources.
The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) is a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. CRMC’s Bariatric program successfully completed this survey to become accredited. Research shows, accredited centers experience lower complications and better outcomes than that of non-accredited facilities.
“We are dedicated to growing and consistently improving our service lines to better serve our region. These distinctions are just one way we are ensuring quality care for our patients,” said CRMC President and CEO, Vicki Lewis.
"ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Coffee Regional Medical Center has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement," said ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS.
