The CCA Patriots split a double-header with the Frederica Academy Knights on Friday afternoon, winning game one 2-1 then dropping game two 3-2. The game one win was CCA head coach Jeremy Coram’s 200th as a Patriot.
In game one, neither team scored until the final inning. Landon Williams led off the top of the seventh with a single and advanced to second on a bunt by Sam Ables. Gray McLean then singled to score Williams. McLean went to third on a throwing error then scored on a passed ball to take a 2-0 lead. After a Jonathan Rutland walk, the Knights retired the next two Patriots to end the inning.
Frederica took advantage of a couple of CCA miscues in the bottom of the inning to score a run but they couldn’t muster anything else. The Patriots came away with a 2-1 victory. Rutland threw a three-hit complete game, striking out seven and walking two.
In game two, the Knights scored one run in the first, second, and third innings. CCA waited until late again to get on the board, scoring in the sixth and seventh innings. Blake Bryant started for the Patriots and gave up four hits, three runs (one earned), and walked one in six innings of work. He struck out 10. Gray McLean closed things out for CCA. He threw one scoreless inning. Landon Williams had two hits. Rutland and Jonah Hall scored the Patriots’ runs.
CCA is back in action today against Grace Christian Academy in Douglas. Game time is scheduled for 4:30. The Patriots are 4-2 this season.
