Ronald Eugene "Ronnie" Wright, age 82, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on August 1, 2020 at his residence following a brief illness. 

 

Ronnie was born September 12, 1937 in Aripeka, Florida, to the late John Perry "J.P." Wright and the late Lucile Broadway Wright. Upon his mother's death in August 1938, his mother's sister, the late Estelle Broadway Shiver, and her husband, the late John Spence Shiver, Sr., became his parents. He is also preceded in death by his sister Mamie Shiver Reeves and brother Jimmy Lucas Shiver. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Carolyn Hester Wright; sister Vivian "Bibie" Shiver Peace; brother John Spence Shiver, Jr. (Vivian) and sister-in-law Charlotte Shiver. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends also survive. 

 

Ronnie worked for Arrow Shirt factory, Forest Park Police Department, Eastern Airlines and Walmart. He is a member of Northside Baptist Church of Douglas and also attended St. Mark United Methodist Church of Douglas where his wife serves as musician and they are church custodians. He was an ordained Baptist deacon.


Ronnie's hobbies included traveling, gardening (especially tomatoes) and watching sports games on TV. He graduated from Baker County High School of Newton, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia. He served a short tour of duty with the United States Army.

 

Gravesite services and burial for Ronnie will be held Monday, August 3, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Broxton, Georgia with Rev. Chris Calhoun and Rev. Kenneth White officiating. Pallbearers are Dave Morse, Ray Fussell, Del Parisella, Wayne Tanner, Charles Courson and Jeff Meeks. Musical selection by CD is "What a Day That Will Be." Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 at Sims Funeral Home.

 

Memorial gifts to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 501 Walker Street East, Douglas, Georgia 31533; Reedy Branch Cemetery Fund, 96 Boxwood Road, Broxton, Georgia 31519; or a charity of your choice are suggested.
