Last Thursday, during the regular monthly meeting of the Coffee County Board of Education, students from all levels were recognized during the annual presentation of the system's artwork calendar.  Entering its twenty-second year of production, the school board recognized those students whose art was selected for display on the 2014-2015  school calendar.

Kim Clayton, Director of  Personnel and Public Relations, presented each student with a certificate, as all students earned the monthly Superintendent’s Award.

Mrs. Clayton publically thanked Mr. Sonny Lyon from Lyon Management, owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken and Krystal’s, for his sponsorship of the calendar for the past 19 years.

“Without Mr. Lyon it would be a very expensive piece for use to produce.  We appreciate his annual support of not only our system but, most importantly, our students.”

Another individual we appreciate is Ms. Deborah Kirkland from Design and Print for her expertise in assisting with the design.

A key factor in the success of the final products selected are the art teachers within the system.  At the elementary level, classroom teachers work with the students on their creativity.  Moving into the secondary level, art is an elective so the individual art teachers are responsible for the students’ talents.  From Coffee Middle School, Ken Suttles; From G.W. Carver Freshman Campus, former art teacher, Suzette Smith, who is now teaching math, with new teacher Sara Wood, who will be working with this year’s students and from Coffee High, Julie Lord.

Within the next month, the students’ art will be matted and framed for display within the halls of the central office throughout the school year.
