Coffee Regional Medical Center has honored Risa Perkins of the Food and Nutrition Services Department with 2023’s first quarter BEE Award. She was nominated by a coworker who shared, “Risa writes inspirational messages to our chemo patients inside their lunch plates. These notes mean so much to patients. On a particular day, she wrote, “You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it.” This message brought a cancer patient to tears. He had been having so many problems at home and personally. The patient shared, “I really needed this today.”
When it comes to quality patient care, it truly takes a team, and The BEE Award recognizes the extraordinary work of non-nursing staff. This award complements the DAISY Award, which recognizes outstanding service and care by nursing staff.
This story is just one example of what it means to go above and beyond. All non-nursing Coffee Regional Medical Center staff members qualify for The BEE Award. Nominations are gathered monthly and awarded every quarter after the BEE Award committee members choose the recipient. Each honoree receives a certificate that reads: “This award is proudly presented in recognition of going BEE-yond in showing our patients & visitors an Exceptional Experience here at Coffee Regional Medical Center.” Additionally, honorees receive a unique BEE Award pin for their badge, a $50 gift certificate, and a reception with their colleagues featuring freshly made “honeybee” buns as a sweet treat.
